Assignment #2 (to be done in class on Wednesday, December 2)
Put a line between Assignment #1 and Assignment #2.
Read chapter two.
On your student page ABOVE assignment #1, choose one of the following: suspense or foreshadowing.
Find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two.
Write the exact wording from the book - that means type the sentences exactly as they are written.
In a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing.
Foreshadowing"Queer business when you came to think of it-the whole thing was queer-very queer....."
"No, she wouldn't remember....She would not think of it! All that was over...."
"Funny place to meet him.....here-out of the world."
"That fellow Lombard now, he was a queer chap. Not straight. He'd swear the man wasn't straight."
Each of these sentences in the book show foreshadowing because of what they are saying. In the first sentence, it is foreshadowing about how this whole book is going to be. It might be saying that queer things are going to happen. In the second sentence, it makes you want to know what this is all about. It makes you think that it will be remembered and told later in the book. In the third sentence, this is saying that this is a funny place to meet this person. Maybe we will find out that this isn't a coincidence and isn't so funny. Finally, in the fourth sentence, it talks about a certain person being queer. This could be showing that something with him is going to happen.

how does a mystery novel differ from a narrative?
how might the title be a clue to the story?
A narrative is a story where the person is talking from their point of view. A mystery novel is a story that has clues, is mysterious, and there might be many people talking from different points of view. The title gives clues that there could be people, and something happens to them, so there is nobody left.
I think that there will be people who go somewhere, and then they start to disappear. They will probably all end up disappearing, so there is no one left.
Grayson,
True! Clues are needed in a mystery. Good explanation.
Check out the highlighted word. Is that correct? If person is singular, then the pronoun must match.
Don't forget to link this page to the page with the prompts as well as the student page. Most everyone linked his or her student page to the wrong page. It should be linked to the 'here' page.
